The aim is for this Strategy to be the vision, the plan and the commitment of the state for a series of actions and activities aimed at the promotion and well-being of youth, recognizing that the young generation is the most vibrant and dynamic cell of our society, the present and the future of our country. A basic objective and principle of  implemented policies and actions for youth, the representatives of youth organisations, the social partners and of course, the youth themselves, in order for the second strategy to be a product of co-development.

The adoption of the new National Strategy for Youth with a horizon of 2030, is a milestone project for the Cyprus Youth Board on youth policy issues and the culmination of the actions and aspirations of the National Year of Youth 2024.

With the completion of the 1st National Youth Strategy Youth, which was the first specialized policy document with actions and policies of the State for youth, the Youth Board is now preparing the 2nd National Youth Strategy 2030, a strategy that aims to inspire hope, confidence and optimism in the new generation.

In this effort, and with the participation and empowerment of youth as its main focus, the young people, representatives of youth organisations, social partners and, of course, policy makers will be the companions of the Youth Board.

The aim of this strategy is to be the vision, the plan and, at the same time, the commitment of the State to a series of actions and activities targeted at promoting the well-being of young people. This is in recognition of the fact that, the young generation is the most vibrant and dynamic cell of our society, the present and the future of our country.

The development of the Strategy will start by mapping the current situation and exploring young people’s challenges, in order to set objectives and priorities that respond to young people’s real needs and wants. An important aspect is also the cooperation with Ministries and Agencies implementing actions and programmes for youth, in order to integrate the youth dimension in all policy areas and to further strengthen it.

Society, decision-makers and young people themselves will be invited to participate in the shaping of the new National Strategy 2030 through a participatory and creative process to be followed by the Youth Board, which will include focus groups, debates, local consultations and an open online consultation.

A key principle on which the Strategy will be based, is the Youth Board’s ambition that everything, concerning young people should be co-decided with youth.

According to the timetables set by the Youth Board, the development of the Strategy will be completed by the end of 2024. The process will start from the evaluation of the first Strategy, building on the experience gained, analysing the difficulties and obstacles encountered and documenting the progress and development achieved in youth issues. In the evaluation of the 1st Strategy, young people – as the main target group of the Strategy – and the bodies that have undertaken the implementation of the Strategy in cooperation with the Youth Board, will have a key role and voice in the evaluation. This will be followed by a cycle of consultations to gather the views and suggestions of all stakeholders, and in particular, young people.

The adoption of the new National Strategy for Youth 2030 is a multidimensional challenge for the Cyprus Youth Board. It is a milestone project for youth policy issues and the culmination of the actions and aspirations of the National Year of Youth 2024.

It is a challenge that the Youth Board will carry out with your participation!

NATIONAL YEAR OF YOUTH

Demonstrating the state’s interest in the young generation as the future of the country, as well as the Presidency’s strong emphasis on youth issues, the Council of Ministers declared 2024 as the Year of Youth.

The preparation of the Second National Youth Strategy is the most emblematic action of the Year of Youth in youth policy issues, as it perfectly serves the objectives of the Year, with a horizon of 2030.

The main objectives of the Year of Youth are to promote young people’s active participation in decision-making processes, improve policies that affect them, promote inclusion and equal opportunities, enhance young people’s skills to facilitate their integration into society and the labour market, create opportunities for youth entrepreneurship, as well as improve young people’s mental health.
