The Commonwealth Youth Programme is the main tool of the work carried out by the Commonwealth for the development of the youth.

The Programme is governed by these principles:

Engaging and recognising young people by supporting the effective participation and involvement of young women and men in all decision-making processes and at all levels and by showcasing the achievements of young people in driving democracy and development.
Supporting Member States governments by providing technical assistance for youth policies and creating youth development frameworks and tools.
Professionalising youth work by supporting youth education and training and setting competency standards, as well as by promoting good practices and advocating, for national and international youth work associations.

The YBC pays its annual financial contribution to the Commonwealth Youth Programme, and supports the participation of young Cypriots in the Commonwealth Youth Forum financially or in other ways.
