The active involvement and participation of young people in all youth related matters is an important component and principle of the National Youth Strategy, as it seeks to give young people the opportunity to speak for themselves. Once young people are properly informed, they should be consulted on any youth related issue and should participate in every planning and decision-making process as active participants in their own development and in the development of society in general. As equal social partners, young people should be used as a reference point during decision-making.
Carrying out consultations with young people constitutes an important part of the National Youth Strategy implementation and is considered a prerequisite for the achievement of the Strategy’s vision for the empowerment of all young people in Cyprus, since it gives the opportunity to youth to have an active role in the formulation of policies that affect them.
Therefore, the YBC carries out local and national consultations on various issues concerning young people regularly, either alone or in cooperation with other bodies.
